It's Never too Soon to Set Goals

San Fernando Mayor Pro Tem Sylvia Ballin presented certificates to Kindergarten students in Mrs. Maria Herrera's class at O'Melveny Elementary School. Ballin said one of her favorite community events to attend is Career Day at local schools and when she visited the classroom in February she talked to the kids about going to college.

"It's important to talk to  kids about setting goals.  Their teacher contacted me to say the kids had picked the colleges they wanted to attend, so I returned with certificates to look back and remember their goal, and hope it inspires them to reach their goal. "  Ballin said she also asked the kids to stand up if they are a leader.  "I'm proud to say all the kids stood up.  A few hesitated but stood up.  I said, 'Yes,  all of you are leaders.' "  Ballin said she plans on following up with the classroom and will attend their Open House.
