Crossing Guard Hit by Vehicle Dies at Hospital

VAN NUYS (CNS) — A crossing guard who was hit by a vehicle in the Valley Glen area near Van Nuys died at a hospital, authorities said.

Delia Huerta, 57, of Sun Valley was injured about 7:20 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, in the 13400 block of West Vanowen Street and died about 10 hours afterward, according to the coroner’s office and the Los Angeles Police Department.

A teenage girl was also hit by the vehicle, and was treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The motorist remained at the scene and was interviewed by officers.

According to published reports, LAPD Sgt. David Delgado said that the driver possibly “couldn’t see very clearly because ... the sun was in his eyes.”
