Relay participants will enroll in historic cancer prevention Study-3

This Saturday families will gather for the seventh annual 2010 Relay for Life of San Fernando. The 24-hour relay raises money for cancer research, cancer awareness, prevention, and services sponsored by the American Cancer Society.

This year San Fernando based is one of 13 California cities with a relay, and the only relay site in Los Angeles County, chosen to participate in a historic cancer prevention study.

Representatives from the American Cancer Society will enroll participants for the Cancer Prevention Study-3 at the San Fernando Relay for Life event.

The study will gather data from those between the ages of 30 to 65, with no personal medical history of cancer, about the various life styles and environmental factors that can contribute to cancer.

"We have been recruiting participants throughout the San Fernando Valley since early January," said Pacoima native and San Fernando Relay CPS-3 Committee Chair Adrian Torres. "We are confident our numerous presentations will turn out the community for this important study."

The plans to recruit participants at the San Fernando Relay For Life has also been promoted county wide by the American Cancer Staff at Relay events in various communities.

Relay for Life is a nationwide community event and the San Fernando event has been noted for raising significant funds for a community of its size.

Prior to the event, fundraisers are held by each participating team. So far, The San Fernando Relay 2010 has raised over $67,000.

The seventh annual San Fernando Relay for Life starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 10th, 2010 at San Fernando Recreation Park, 209 Park Avenue in San Fernando. The 24-hour festivities end the next day Sunday, July 11 at 9 a.m.
