A fire broke out at Heavenly Pancake, located on 665 N. Maclay St. in San Fernando last Friday, Jan.17, at approximately 9 p.m. The popular restaurant was boarded up and a sign was posted that read: “Closed for Remodeling.”

The restaurant management informed its customers that the restaurant would be closed due to the structural fire, “until further notice.” LAFD spokesman Battalion Chief Steve Ruda said the fire was “accidental” and it appeared that it originated in a back area of the restaurant that contained potentially combustible material. Employees said that prior to the fire they had smelled gas. Heavenly Pancake, originally named Pancake Heaven, is known in the community as an “unofficial” landmark. Even Ruda noted, “They have the best pancakes around.”
