It was at this house on Herron St. where the stabiing took place.

SYLMAR (CNS) — A 22 year-old man is in jail on suspicion of killing his 55-year-old mother, police said.

Freddy Sanchez was booked in the stabbing death of Matilda Sanchez at his home in Sylmar on Tuesday, March 25,, and was being held in lieu of $1 million bail, Los Angeles police officials said.

Matilda Sanchez was stabbed multiple times, LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon said.

It happened about 4:20 p.m. in the 13900 block of Herron Street, and several calls to police were made at that time, Vernon said.

The son may have made one of those calls “to implicate his mother as the aggressor,” Vernon said.

When police arrived, they found the mother lying on the living room floor. She was declared dead at the scene, Vernon said.

“We have interviewed a witness, an uncle who lives in the home, who confirmed his nephew stabbed the woman,” Vernon said. “It is especially tragic to deal with a scene where someone kills one's parent. This is the third such murder in Sylmar in two years.”

Detectives interviewed Freddy Sanchez and two other men in the home at the time of the stabbing, Vernon said. Police responded to the home recently after reports of the son kicking doors and setting fires, he said.

“The history of activity at the home will give us more insight as to what’s behind this tragic murder,” Vernon said. Detectives searched the home after obtaining a warrant and found a large, bloody butcher knife near the mother’s body.
