Mayor Sylvia Ballin said she was "pleased" that so many residents came to ask questions in a setting that was outside of council chambers. "At council meetings we aren't allowed to offer feedback or have a dialogue during the public comments period, so I wanted to start having casual public events that would give us an opportunity to have open conversations," Ballin said. One resident asked Ballin what she thought was the city's biggest problem. "Without a doubt it's our financial situation," she said. "We are working hard to climb out of the red that previous administrations created." Assemblyman Raul Bocanegra also attended with members of his staff. He said he was impressed with the questions that were asked including one that asked him about the challenges at the border and what he would do differently. "What I would change is that these children have no legal representation, can you imagine being an eight-year-old and having to appear before a federal magistrate and not being able to have anyone to help them?"
Acting San Fernando Police Chief Robert Parks also attended the event with members of the department.
