PACOIMA (CNS) - An autopsy is pending to determine what caused the death of a 69-year-old paraglider who collapsed just before he launched into a glide in Pacoima.
Thomas Benson Cornelius of West Hills was found dead around 5:20 p.m. Sunday May 6, in the 9800 block of North San Fernando Road above Lopez Canyon Road.
Joe Greblo of the Sylmar Hang Gliding Association said Cornelius, a member of the club, did not crash, but died from an unspecified physical ailment.
"(Cornelius) died before launching," Greblo said. ``The member was preparing to launch and had some sort of medical problem and passed away before getting into the air."
The Los Angeles County coroner's office had not yet scheduled an autopsy to determine the official cause of Cornelius' death.
