Teacher Prep Academy (TPA), located on the Cesar Chavez Learning Academies campus in the City of San Fernando, is one of LAUSD's newest high schools and is committed to preparing its students for the unique challenges of the 21st century. Our school serves students from the surrounding communities of San Fernando and Pacoima, as well as parts of Sylmar, Arleta, and Lake View Terrace. Our goal is to develop lifelong learners through an academically challenging curriculum that stimulates curiosity and connects ideas across subjects. While our school promotes careers in education, we strive to prepare students to achieve mastery of the California standards in all content areas. We want our graduates to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and technologically proficient contributing members of society. TPA understands youth must be ready to enter any college, any job market, and any world they greet as they graduate from high school. Therefore, on Thursday, May 31, 2012, from 9am-11 am, TPA will host its first Career Fair.

In our changing world, career exploration is of utmost importance for our youth. As educators, parents, and employers, TPA is keenly aware of the need to expose students to the many career choices and options available to them as they make their way through high school and beyond. Our Career Fair will provide approximately 300, ninth through twelfth grade students with the opportunity to meet adults from various industries and motivate our youth to think seriously about their futures.

Career Fair booths will be hosted by parents, educators, business members, and other professionals as a way to familiarize our students with the skills necessary to perform particular jobs, as well as inform students of the wide array of pathways available to achieve their job and career goals. Presenters will bring display boards, props, resources, and tools of their trade to give students a handson experience that bridges the gap between world of work and the world of school. The job fair-like setting will help students make connections and interact with professionals in a way that may not otherwise be possible.

We at TPA are excited about hosting our first Career Fair. We are that honored members of the community will be coming to our school, and we look forward to helping our students dream, plan, and achieve their goals. If you want to share your professional knowledge with our youth, we are still seeking volunteers from all industries who are interested in participating. Please call Teacher Prep Academy at (818) 838-3961 and ask for Belen Flores to sign up today!
