San Fernando High is Among Thirteen Low- Performing Focus Schools LOS ANGELES - The Request for Proposal to turn around 13 low-performing schools is being released this week by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to launch the fourth round of the Public School Choice process. Teams of educators are invited to develop a plan for a highly-effective educational program that will also accelerate student performance at each existing school. The six elementary schools are: 24th Street; 153rd Street; Coliseum, Flournoy, Weigand and Woodcrest. The two middle schools are: Harte and Nimitz. The five high schools are: Banning, Franklin, Monroe, Panorama and San Fernando. "In keeping with the District's commitment to provide a high quality education to all of students, the goal of the Public School Choice process is to ensure access to excellent school options," Superintendent John E. Deasy said. The PSC reform effort encourages educators to develop research-based instructional plans with the goal of improving student achievement. To date, teams from within and outside of LAUSD have been approved to operate more than 100 newly constructed campuses and existing schools. For the fourth-round of the initiative, letters of intent to apply are due by noon on Friday, June 29, with final proposals due by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
