California State University, Northridge is ranked among the top 10 institutions of higher education in the nation for awarding bachelor's and master's degrees to Hispanic students, according to Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education.
The magazine's annual ranking of the "Top 100 Colleges for Hispanics," based on degrees awarded students, appears in its May 7 issue.
"California State University, Northridge's latest rankings in the top 10 universities in the nation for Hispanics shows that our long-term commitment to diversity and serving traditionally underrepresented students has been successful," said Interim President Harry Hellenbrand. "As a leading Hispanic-serving institution, these are goals we will continue to seek to improve."
Cal State Northridge ranked seventh in the nation among colleges and universities that award bachelor's degrees and ninth in the nation among those institutions that award master's degrees.
The rankings are based on information provided by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics and its Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System for the year 2011.

CSUN was fifth in the nation in awarding bachelor's degrees to Hispanics in communications and journalism; English language and literature; and the visual and performing arts. CSUN was seventh in parks, recreation, leisure and fitness studies, and ninth in Hispanic American, Puerto Rican and Mexican- American/Chicano studies.
California State University, Northridge has more than 34,000 full- and part-time students and offers 66 bachelor's and 53 master's degrees as well as 28 teaching credential programs. Founded in 1958, CSUN is among the largest single- campus universities in the nation and the only four-year public university in the San Fernando Valley. The university is home to dozens of nationally recognized programs where students gain valuable hands-on experience working alongside faculty and industry professionals, whether in the sciences, health care and engineering or education, political science, the arts and the social sciences. While regionally focused, the university's faculty and administrators recognize the important role its students and alumni play in shaping the future of the state and the nation.
