VAN NUYS (CNS) – Capital murder charges have been filed against a 25-yearold North Hollywood man accused in the bludgeoning deaths of his parents last week.

Jonathan Mercado was ordered to remain jailed without bail while awaiting arraignment Sept. 25 in Van Nuys Superior Court on two counts of murder stemming from the deaths of his father, Alexandro, 51, and mother, Veronica, 47.

The murder charge includes the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death penalty.

The victims were beaten to death Friday, Sept. 7, at the family's home in the 8100 block of Radford Street, where the defendant lived with his parents and two younger siblings.

His mother's body was wrapped in a sheet and placed in a pickup truck found abandoned Friday afternoon in Sun Valley, while his father's body was found wrapped in a sheet in a bedroom at the family's home.
