NORTHRIDGE (CNS) - A man was killed and three people were wounded when a gunman opened fire on their car, which had stopped on the side of a road in Northridge.
The shooting near the intersection of Balboa Boulevard and Parthenia Street was reported just after midnight Tuesday, said Sgt. Mary St. Pierre of the Los Angeles Police Department's Devonshire Station. The two men and two women were in a Lexus that had pulled over on Balboa, police said.
The victims were taken to hospitals, where one of them was pronounced dead, said Sgt.
Lonnie Tiano of the Devonshire Station. One of the surviving victims was in surgery, he said.
The car pulled over because one the occupants had to relieve himself, Tiano said, adding that the gunman was on foot when he opened fire.
At least one round struck an occupied residence, a news photographer reported from the scene.
The motive for the shooting was not immediately determined.
