A San Fernando family is desperately looking for their 70- year-old father whom they haven't seen since Friday, March 1.

"He's not in the hospital. He's not in the jail. We don't know where my dad is," said daughter Angelica Duran, who showed up to the San Fernando City Council this week to ask for help in locating Joe Duran. She said her calls to the San Fernando Police Department (SFPD) had not produced the results they hoped for.

Outside the council chambers, SFPD Det. Irwin Rosenberg promised the family he would look into the matter, and help them try and find out what happened to Duran.

At press time, Angelica said Rosenberg had informed them that a search of their databases, which include jails, hospitals and even the coroner's office, had not yielded any results. Angelica said Duran left their home around 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1, near the intersection of Orange Grove and Second Street.

Margaret and Angelica Duran hold a photo of Joe Duran whom they haven't seen since Friday, March 1.

She admitted that her father is an alcoholic and often leaves the house to go buy beer at a near shop and usually stays drinking and talking with others at a gas station at the corner of Truman Boulevard and Hubbard Street. But those outings don't last long, and he comes back home. "The longest he stays out is an hour," said wife Margaret Duran.

"He was home and went out. When he doesn't come home, we know there's something wrong," Angelica said. "He could be drunk out of his mind, but he always comes home." But not this time.

Angelica said she and her brothers went looking for Duran Friday evening after her father went missing.

"My brother went riding on a bicycle all along the path along the train tracks asking if they had seen him, and no one had seen him," she said.

Angelica also said her father suffers from seizures and "when he drinks he gets forgetful." "We try to put an ID on him, but he always loses it. He had no cash on him either apart from what he was going to buy the beer with," she said.

Angelica noted they have also expanded their search to Van Nuys, Arleta, Sylmar and even North Hollywood in the off chance he may have been disoriented and walked or taken the bus to those areas. They have also searched the recycling business in Sylmar where Duran goes to sell cans he collects.

This weekend, friends and family, and volunteers will be passing out flyers, canvassing different areas and expanding the search further in an effort to locate her father.

"So far, we have no tips. We just don't know where he is," Angelica said.

When he was last seen, Duran wore a white shirt, khaki pants and a navy blue jacket.

If you've seen Joe Duran, call the family immediately at (818) 274-4388.
