ARLETA (CNS) – Los Angeles police are warning Arleta residents to be on the lookout for a man who broke into two homes – in one case attacking a woman – and tried to break into a third.
The attacks began Aug. 30, around 12:30 a.m. in the 13600 block of Bracken Street, according to the LAPD.
A woman said she was lying in bed when she heard a noise outside her window, according to police. Believing it to be her imagination, she fell back asleep and later awoke to find a man standing in her bedroom. When she screamed, the man dove out of her bedroom window head first, police said.
About 20 hours later at a home on the 9400 block of Nagle Avenue, a homeowner was getting ready for bed when he heard his side gate rattle, then saw a flashlight shine through a window and a man trying to break in, police said. When the homeowner yelled in Spanish for the intruder to identify himself, the man responded in Spanish that he was with the police.
The resident held a sliding door closed as the prowler tried to get in. Eventually, the man saw the prowler jump back over a wall and heard a car engine start up and a car drive away, police said.
