Westlake Village Oaks Christian has been one of the Southland's top prep football programs, the Lions having won seven Southern Section titles since the school opened in 2000.

Chaminade's resume is not as gaudy, but the Eagles have made steady progress since Ed Croson, now in his fourth season, took over as head coach.

Both teams are 3-0 entering their Sept. 14 nonleague showdown and both are lighting up the scoreboard.

Chaminade has averaged 42.3 points per game in wins against Los Angeles Venice, Little Rock (AR) Pulaski Academy and Valencia.

Oaks Christian has averaged 41 points in victories against Loomis Del Oro, Granite Bay and Los Angeles Venice.

The Lions are particularly dangerous through the air.

Quarterback Brandon Dawkins, a junior, has completed 52 of 69 pass attempts for 719 yards and six touchdowns. His favorite receiver is senior Francis Owusu, who has caught 21 passes for 365 yards and four touchdowns.

The Eagle's offense is more ground-oriented, led by senior running back Terrell Newby's 477 yards and seven touchdowns on 55 carries.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Chaminade.
