Thirteen hundred people attended the 9th Annual Frankie Hernandez Legacy of Life Baseball Tournament held in Granada Hills over the Labor Day weekend. This Little League baseball tournament honors Frankie Hernandez, an All-Star baseball player from Arleta, who became an organ donor in 2005 at the age of nine, saving the lives of five children.
The tournament, hosted by Frankie's family, was founded in 2005 by Frankie's mother, Erica Rangel-Báez, to honor her son's birthday. In that spirit, at this tournament, five teams changed their team names to the Frankie Hernandez team and they all wore his number 8 on their jerseys.
Over 325 kids, between the ages of 5 and 12 in five age divisions, participated in roundrobin games, ending in the championship game on Sunday afternoon. The tournament attracted competitive- level teams from throughout Southern California, and Nevada. Proceeds from the event will benefit OneLegacy, the nonprofit organ and tissue recovery agency in Southern California and the Donate Life
