|GAME OF THE WEEK- Spartans, Mustangs Both Need This One|

Arleta and Sylmar finish their nonleague schedule this week against each other in a game that can have postseason implications for separate reasons.
The Spartans (4-3) are explosive offensively, as evidenced by their 75-13 victory against Van Nuys on Oct. 18. What Sylmar doesn't have this season is a signature win: their losses against Harvard- Westlake, San Fernando and Roosevelt of Los Angeles were all games that could have raised the team's profile in Division II. And unless San Fernando is going to lose two of its last three games, the Spartans cannot win the Valley Mission League outright even if they win out.
Unfortunately Sylmar has an added burden. Chris Richards was removed as head coach this week after serving a two-game suspension due to allegations that included theft of snack bar funds, charging players for equipment and failure to report accurate details of an alleged fight between a player and assistant coach.
Richards, who maintains his innocence, told the Los Angeles Daily News "I have not had a chance to address the players and I may never get that chance. My feelings are mixed. It is what it is." Former assistant John Brazil becomes the new head coach.
Unbeaten Arleta (7-0) faces a different pressure. The Mustangs should win the East Valley League; they are the best team. But the league is weak, and winning it alone won't help Mustangs move high up in the Division I standings. The best thing Arleta can have going for it is finishing the regular season without a loss. The kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Arleta.
