The Sierra Canyon High boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will play for their respective state championships this weekend in Sacramento.

The boys’ team (31-3) defeated visiting Mater Dei High of Santa Ana, 83-73, in the Open Division final of the Southern Regional on Tuesday, March 5.

The girls’ team (32-1) — whose only loss this season came to Windward High of Los Angeles in the Southern Section’s Open Division final — defeated Clovis West High of Fresno, 74-70, also on Tuesday in the Southern Regional Open Division final played at Buchanan High in Clovis.

Both Trailblazers teams will play on Saturday, March 9, at the Golden 1 Center arena. The girls’ game against Pinewood High (27-3) of Los Altos Hills is at 6 p.m. The boys’ game against Sheldon High of Sacramento (24-10) follows at 8 p.m.
